Message from Fr. Anthony Carvalho

Convener, Diocesan Committee for Ecology (DCE)

Fr. Anthony Carvalho, presently Convener and Former Secretary of Diocesan Commission for Ecology (DCE). He is now incharge of the Diocesan Agriculture Farm at Birondem. Earlier as Assistant Parish Priest of St. John the Baptist Church, Cana-Benaulim, he mentored the Parish Youth and Parishioners to present the second edition of the “Season of Creation at Cana Benaulim. He is trained in organic practices and Ecology Management in Japan specially deputed by the Archdiocese of Goa. He has had the privilege of working closely with Late Dr. Fr. Bolmax Pereira and has now taken over that position and is working under the guidance on the Auxiliary Bishop Most. Rev. Simião Purificação Fernandes with the DCE.

The Message

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

ll that the Lord created was/is good and all of us are invited to share and maintain this goodness. The earth, our common home, cries out for care. As Pope Francis reminds us in his encyclical Laudato Si’, we must hear both the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor. Our responsibility as Christians is to be faithful stewards of creation.

Living Waters

This year’s Season of Creation theme draws us to reflect on ‘Living Waters’ inspired by Ezekiel 47:1–12, where the prophet envisions water flowing from the temple, bringing life wherever it goes. Water is the source of life — it sustains, cleanses, renews and gives hope. “Water is the source of life — it sustains, cleanses, renews and gives hope. Let us protect this precious gift.”

Goa’s Water Bodies

Goa is blessed with abundant water — the Arabian Sea, rivers like the Mandovi and Zuari, natural springs, lakes, ponds and wells that have sustained our communities for generations. These water bodies are not just resources; they are part of our heritage, our identity, and our responsibility.

A Call to Care

Fr. Anthony invites every parishioner to take concrete action: clean, restore and breathe life into neglected water bodies in our communities. Let us not wait for others — each of us can make a difference. Whether it is clearing a clogged spring, protecting a village pond, or simply using water more responsibly, every action matters.
