A Quiz with a Purpose

The Rev. Fr. Dr. Bolmax Pereira Memorial Inter-School Ecology Quiz brought together students from across Goa to celebrate ecological knowledge, responsibility and action.

Organised in memory of Rev. Fr. Dr. Bolmax Pereira (1976–2026), the initiative sought to continue his commitment to ecology, education, faith and care for our common home by inspiring a new generation of environmentally responsible young people.

Organised by St. Anne’s Church, Ponda 8th Centenary Committee in collaboration with the Diocesan Commission for Ecology, Archdiocesan Board of Education and Diocesan Society of Education.

Young Minds for Creation

The competition challenged students on ecology, biodiversity, water conservation, forests, wildlife, climate change, renewable energy, waste management, sustainable living and Goa’s rich natural heritage.

Dr. Kennedy D’Silva served as Quiz Master, creating a lively and competitive atmosphere through engaging and carefully structured rounds.

Between the preliminary, semifinal and final rounds, Sansiew D’Silva conducted a Fun and Learning Session, giving students an opportunity to relax, participate and continue learning through interactive activities.

The closely contested final reflected the high standard of preparation and ecological awareness among the participating students. Winners and finalists were felicitated, while participating students received certificates.

The programme was honoured by the presence of Mr. Narayan Prabhudesai, Range Forest Officer, as Chief Guest, along with Fr. Anthony Carvalho, Convener of the Diocesan Commission for Ecology, and Rev. Fr. Francis Rozario OFM, Parish Priest of St. Anne’s Church, Ponda.

A Legacy of Ecological Awareness

The programme began with a minute’s silence in memory of Rev. Fr. Dr. Bolmax Pereira.

More than a one-day competition, the Ecology Quiz was envisioned as part of a continuing legacy of ecological education and action — encouraging young people to take what they learn beyond the classroom and into their homes, schools and communities.
